I am the third generation of Pueblo County pioneers born in Pueblo county, I have always been interested in family history and family stories. According to family legend, there were Indians, Cowboys and a horse thief among our ancestors. And I have found them! The Potawatomie great greatgrandmother, the Cherokee greatgrandfather, lots of cowboys and a great great uncle who died swimming stolen horses across the Wabash River! I just wish that so many generations of my family had not moved, county to county, state to state, and with the maiden name of Davis, those elusive ancestors are hard to track down.
On the other hand, I married a New Englander whose family has been on the same farm in New Hampshire since 1690. Few members of the other side of his family have ever ventured far from the New England area! When I started researching them, I thought I had died and gone to genealogy heaven. Research continues of course on both sides of our families, who can resist the challenge? In 2005, I published a book on the Lombard family, and I am presently in the process of updating that book.
I have been fortunate to have been a member of SECGS almost since its organization in 1978 and have been as active as time would allow since that time. The challenge of saving pertinent information from the eleven southeast Colorado counties and disseminating it to the public is one I relish, and in my present position of President I intend to further the mission of our Society.
